146 VDO Senders
Sender and Drive Tangs
For Generator Tachometers and Synchronizers for Diesel Applications
FIG 4108b
340-001 can be used with VDO generator tachometers and synchronizers. The generator sender is
installed with its shaft connected to the injector pump or camshaft of the engine. Up to four generator
tachometers and two synchronizers can be operated from one generator sender. It is important to use
Floating Ground the correct size drive tang for your engine. Check your engine specifications for correct drive tang
size. 340-020 is for use with electronic and programmable tachometers and engine synchronizers des-
ignated as inductive type.

Engine and Gear Oil Pressure Senders
FIG 4112b
VDO SENDERS All Pressure Senders are 12- or 24-Volt and have 1/8-27 IPS thread unless noted. These senders work with most VDO series
gauges that are 10-180 ohms. Standard Ground: Single wire senders with positive lead only. Grounding occurs through the
sender case to common ground. Floating Ground: Two wire senders with positive and negative lead. The sender is insulat-
ed in the engine block and grounding occurs through the negative lead to a common ground (i.e. ground on battery). This
prevents the formation of a voltage leak and electrolytic corrosion. Dual Station: Dual gauge operation from a single sender.
"D" is stamped on side of hex nut of sender.
