                                                  WHAT IS SOLAS?
              SOLAS  (Safety  Of  Life  At  Sea),  a  worldwide  safety  council,  was  formed  following  the  sinking  of  the  Titanic.
              SOLAS regulations require more stringent standards of visibility and duration for use on commercial vessels.
                                                    SOLAS 83 Amendment
                                Requirements for Life Preservers — Effective as of July 1, 1991
                All ships that have SOLAS passenger ship safety certificates or SOLAS cargo ship equipment certificates
               must comply with the SOLAS amendments. These ships are generally ships engaged in international voyages.

                          Who Needs Approved Equipment?               When Is It Required?
                          "New" U.S. Registered and Foreign Ships     Now

                          "Existing" U.S. Registered and Foreign Ships  As additional equipment is required or existing
                                                                      equipment is no longer serviceable.
                                 "New" ships in this case are those with keels laid after July 1, 1986.
                                    "Existing" ships are those with keels laid before July 1, 1986.
